Meet the Team
Shortly before Jesus’s crucifixion:
“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned” (Mk 16:15-16).
Meet the people that keeps this small but powerful church afloat. They go beyond the “going the extra mile.” Just to name a few of their activities:
- They, like many churches, distribute food to the poor, but they do much
more than that, they deliver as well. Also, every Sunday after services all members are fed.
- Some of the members, especially those with special needs, live in Lockhart (18 miles away) and Luling (24 miles away) and they have no transportation so they are picked up and afterwards taken home.
- The Mission Trip on the last Sunday of each month is to the Baptist Children’s Detention Center in San Antonio.
- And much more.
Redwood Baptist Church may be small, but the faith and fellowship is awesome. The greatest thing about this church is that everyone loves Jesus every day of the year, not just on Sunday.
The mission of Redwood Baptist Church is to live by the words of Jesus Christ and perform the duties that He had requested of his 12 disciples after His ascension:
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
How this task is fulfilled is primarily through Christian education, i.e., Bible Study, Worship Services, Women’s Bible Fellowship.
Yet, the Redwood Baptist Church does not stop at just words, as the centuries old saying goes, “Actions speak louder than words.”*
Fellowship in Christ is the key that ties everything together:
- Biblical Teaching,
- Praise and Worship,
- Mission Outreach,
- Birthday Recognition,
- Journey-Time (opportunity for church attendants to share real life experiences),
- After Services Sunday Meal (come break bread with us).
That is how we honor our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and there is not one person at Redwood Baptist Church that does it out of obligation, only out of appreciation. Appreciation for Jesus, as well as to each member of this amazing fellowship.
Our actions not only help others, but they also comply with:
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Yet, our actions can only educate and help people enjoy life more. Only Jesus can forgive sin, add true joy into one’s life, and give life everlasting. As the Apostle Paul had explained:
1 Corinthians 3:4-7
4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?
5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man?
6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.
7 So then neither is he that planteth anything, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.
* Sources say that this expression dates back as far as 1628. It was first used in its current form in the USA by Abraham Lincoln in 1856:
‘Actions speak louder than words’ is the maxim; and, if true, the South now distinctly says to the North, ‘Give us the measures, you take the men.’
Activities in Faith
Located on a 15-acre ranch in Lockhart, Texas, Camp Bethany is a spiritual retreat and church camp. The concept for Camp Bethany was born out of a need for Redwood Baptist Church to have a gathering place and camp for special events and retreats.
A large percentage of the congregation are “special friends,” adults with developmental issues and special needs. Camp Bethany offers a spiritual gathering place away from the stress of everyday life in a beautiful rural natural setting.
Many families do not have the financial ability to enjoy a camp retreat experience and Camp Bethany is available for family gatherings and special events on a personal request basis from ranch owner, Laura Bockno-West.
The camp has a pavilion for gatherings, kitchen, bathroom, stock pond for fishing, walking trails, and access for outdoor games.
Future plans include a fishing pier, paddle boat, overnight bunk house accommodations, and a chapel.
Camp Bethany has wheelchair ramps and proposed upgrades are sidewalks and paved parking.
From children to seniors, Camp Bethany offers a place to commune with nature and worship God.
As Jesus rested in Bethany with Lazarus, Martha and Mary – “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matt 11:28).
Camp Bethany offers a place of solace and rest from the stress and burdens of everyday life.
For further inquiries, questions contact Camp Bethany Owner, Laura Bockno-West. Donations for Camp Bethany improvements and maintenance are gratefully appreciated and such a blessing.
